Senior Financial Accountant
State Government | 3 Month Contract | $75–$85 p/h + Super | East Melbourne | Hybrid

We are seeking an experienced Senior Financial Accountant to join a State Government organisation on a 3-month contract. Based in East Melbourne, this role offers full-time hours and hybrid working arrangements while supporting a busy finance team during a key reporting period.
This position will take a lead role in financial reporting, compliance oversight, and the preparation of financial statements, while also supporting the broader finance function through expert advice and strong stakeholder engagement.

About the Role
The Senior Financial Accountant will play a key role in supporting financial operations and reporting, including:

  • Leading the preparation of financial statements and supporting the annual budget build process
  • Providing oversight and maintenance of financial compliance, including Standing Directions
  • Supporting the financial components of the Annual Report, including reporting and acquittals
  • Managing month-end processes, including journals, balance sheet reconciliations, and suspense account reconciliations
  • Preparing accounts receivable reporting and supporting broader financial administration
  • Contributing to the development and improvement of financial policies, processes, and systems
  • Providing expert financial advice and support to internal stakeholders

About You
To be successful in this role, you will bring:
  • Demonstrated experience as a Senior Financial Accountant or similar role
  • Strong experience in financial reporting, compliance, and month-end processes
  • The ability to interpret and communicate complex financial concepts to a broad range of stakeholders
  • Proven experience building effective relationships across teams and departments
  • Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving capability
  • A collaborative and proactive approach to working within a team environment
Qualifications & Experience
  • CPA or CA qualification(or working towards) or equivalent relevant experience
  • Tertiary qualification in finance or accounting
  • Experience working within a large, complex organisation, ideally within government or the public sector
  • Strong understanding of financial policies, procedures, and governance frameworks
