About the role
We’re seeking a proactive Senior Business Advisor to provide timely, expert financial advice and support across budgeting, forecasting, management reporting and performance analysis. You’ll partner with finance leadership and business stakeholders to shape budgets and monthly forecasts, deliver month‑end reporting, and drive insights that inform decision‑making and performance across the portfolio.

What you’ll do

  • Partner with finance leadership to provide expert accounting advice, monthly insights and ad hoc analysis to meet financial and business performance requirements.
  • Own budgets & forecasts for assigned functions, including annual budget preparation, loads to MyOutcomes, and budget reconciliations.
  • Deliver month‑end reporting and contribute to management packs, journals, variance analysis and cluster submissions.
  • Prepare government finance submissions in PRIME(e.g., Carry Forwards, Parameter Technical Adjustments (PTAs), New Policy Proposals).
  • Monitor performance & savings targets —provide analysis on financial results, drivers, and risks; identify opportunities to improve outcomes.
  • Support audits & annual returns —coordinate queries, provide evidence, and ensure a smooth, timely close.
  • Respond to ad hoc requests —deliver high‑quality analytical support to internal clients and stakeholders.
  • Enable continuous improvement —support finance systems/process enhancements and implementations within the Department and ECCS group.
What you’ll bring
  • Tertiary qualifications in Accounting/Finance and eligibility for CPA/CA membership (or equivalent).
  • Demonstrated experience in budgeting, forecasting, and management reporting within complex environments.
  • Advanced Excel skills (e.g., Power Query/Power Pivot, complex formulas, data modelling, dashboarding).
  • Proven ability to partner with non‑finance stakeholders—translating financials into clear, actionable insights.
  • Strong ownership mindset—able to work with limited supervision, manage competing deadlines, and deliver to tight timeframes.
  • A collaborative team‑player who thrives in a friendly, supportive environment and contributes to continuous process improvement.
You’ll succeed here if you…
  • Are comfortable juggling competing deadlines while maintaining accuracy and composure.
  • Enjoy engaging with diverse, non‑finance customers and can tailor your message to different audiences.
  • Have a continuous improvement lens and enjoy tuning reports, templates and processes for scale.
