Chandler Macleod are currently supporting a South East Queensland local government organisation to recruit a Principal Engineer - Floodplain Management for a short‑term 6‑week contract, commencing ASAP.
This role is based in Strathpine, working Monday to Friday (36.25 hours per week), and will play a key role in preparing and establishing the foundational work for a major floodplain management project scheduled to formally commence in June.
About the Role
This is a hands‑on, high‑impact contract focused on the early-stage preparation and technical groundwork of a significant floodplain management project.
The role will focus on early‑stage project planning, documentation development, and project establishment to support transition into delivery and sits within a team of 8, within a wider branch of approximately 25 staff, and requires strong independence, sound judgement, and the ability to engage effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead early‑stage floodplain management project preparation and planning
- Develop and review technical documentation, background reports and supporting materials
- Provide high‑level engineering and floodplain management advice
- Support project setup activities to enable a smooth commencement phase
- Engage with a range of internal stakeholders and external parties
- Work within established local government systems and governance frameworks
- Provide direction and technical input to support project outcomes
What We’re Looking For:
We are seeking an experienced Principal‑level engineer with
- Strong floodplain management or water‑related engineering experience
- Proven project management capability, particularly in early project phases
- High‑level stakeholder engagement and communication skills
- Previous local government experience (or strong familiarity with local government processes and systems) to enable a quick start
- Ability to work autonomously with minimal onboarding
- Availability to commence ASAP
Contract Details:
- Location: Strathpine
- Contract Length: 6 weeks
- Hours: 36.25 hours per week, Monday to Friday
- Rate:$74.19 per hour + super - Higher rates will be considered for candidates who closely align with the role requirements, due to the short‑term nature and minimal onboarding period
