Location: Gladstone QLD - Residential role. DIDO considered.
Duration: Twelve month rolling contract
Roster: Monday to Thursday 6 am to 6 pm, Friday 6 am to 2.30 pm, Saturday as required
Chandler Macleod is partnering with Rio Tinto to recruit an experienced HSE Advisor to support the QAL Wall Raise Self Perform 2026 Project within Rio Tinto Aluminium Pacific Operations Sustaining Capital. This is a critical site-based role responsible for implementing, auditing and maintaining the project HSE Management Plan, policies, standards and procedures across a large self-perform workforce.
The HSE Advisor will work closely with the Construction Superintendent and will report functionally to the General Manager. This position will support daily safety leadership, statutory compliance and continuous improvement activities to ensure all project safety KPIs and obligations are achieved. This is a standalone advisory role supporting a workforce of approximately fifty personnel.
About the Role
You will provide strong field based HSE support across a major bulk earthworks environment. You will ensure the workforce is operating safely and in alignment with Rio Tinto standards, legislative requirements and project systems. You will play a key role in risk management, hazard identification, incident response and proactive safety leadership across the project.
Key Responsibilities
HSE Management and Compliance
• Implement, maintain and audit the project HSE Management Plan
• Ensure compliance with Rio Tinto HSE standards, site procedures and statutory requirements
• Support the Superintendent and Construction Leads with daily safety requirements
• Monitor and report on safety KPIs and project performance
• Facilitate incident investigations and track corrective actions
• Lead site-based hazard identification and risk assessments
• Develop and maintain safe work procedures and project safety systems
Field Leadership
• Provide visible safety leadership across bulk earthworks activities
• Support planning for high-risk activities and traffic management
• Drive proactive workforce engagement and a positive safety culture
• Operate as the standalone HSE representative for a fifty person self-perform team
About You
• Proven HSE experience in heavy industry
• Experience in bulk earthworks and or tailings environments
• Previous Rio Tinto experience is highly desirable
• Strong background in establishing and maintaining HSE systems
• Experience supporting self-perform delivery models
• Exposure to traffic management is preferred
• Ability to work independently in a standalone HSE role
• Strong stakeholder engagement and field presence
