Our client is seeking a highly experienced and motivated Heritage Lead to join their Major Projects team, supporting the delivery of a key Project.
This pivotal role is responsible for leading cultural and historic heritage engagement, approvals, and compliance to ensure project continuity and positive heritage outcomes. You will provide strategic advice across local, state, national, and international heritage frameworks, while integrating Aboriginal heritage and Noongar opportunities into project delivery.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead cultural and historic heritage strategy across the Project
- Provide expert advice on heritage legislation, approvals, and compliance
- Oversee Aboriginal heritage approvals (e.g. s18s, CHMPs, surveys)
- Engage and build strong relationships with Traditional Owners and Aboriginal Corporations
- Manage interfaces with regulators, consultants, and internal stakeholders
- Identify, manage, and escalate heritage risks
- Develop and implement heritage frameworks, agreements, and policies
- Lead and evaluate cultural heritage engagement activities
- Support delivery of Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) commitments
- Ensure heritage considerations are embedded across all project phases
- Drive continuous improvement, lessons learned, and best practices
You are a strategic thinker with strong stakeholder engagement skills and a deep understanding of heritage frameworks in Western Australia.
Essential:
- Demonstrated experience in cultural heritage management and approvals
- Strong knowledge of Aboriginal Heritage and Native Title legislation (WA)
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in a heritage approvals environment
- Proven ability to advise senior leadership on complex heritage matters
- Excellent interpersonal, negotiation, and stakeholder engagement skills
- Strong analytical, organisational, and problem-solving capabilities
- Experience in maritime heritage
- Experience working with Traditional Owners and Aboriginal communities
- Relevant tertiary qualification (e.g. Anthropology, Archaeology, Planning, History, Architecture.
You’ll play a key role in a major infrastructure project while contributing to meaningful cultural heritage outcomes and strengthening relationships with Traditional Owners.
