Construction Leader -Mechanical

Chandler Macleod is currently seeking an experienced Construction Leader – Mechanical on a 2:2 roster to join a major capital projects team supporting a Tier 1 global mining operation in Weipa. This site-based role will support mechanical construction works at Amrun Operations, working within a live mining and port environment.
This opportunity is ideally suited to an experienced Mechanical Supervisor or Construction Leader with strong safety leadership and proven experience managing contractors across multidiscipline project environments.

About the Role
Reporting to the Specialist Projects / Project Manager, the Construction Leader – Mechanical will provide onsite leadership across mechanical construction activities including installation, modification and commissioning of fixed plant and materials handling infrastructure.
You will ensure works are delivered safely and efficiently in line with approved HSE standards, scope, cost, schedule and quality requirements while working within a live operational environment.

Key Responsibilities

Safety Leadership

• Champion a strong Safety First culture across all mechanical construction activities
• Participate in daily pre-starts and safety interactions
• Conduct Critical Risk Management verifications
• Ensure compliance with permit systems and isolation procedures
• Ensure all incidents and hazards are reported and closed out in accordance with site requirements

Mechanical Construction Delivery

• Develop and validate mechanical scopes of work
• Supervise contractors during installation, modification and commissioning activities
• Manage scope changes through formal project governance processes
• Ensure mechanical works meet QA/QC and engineering standards

Schedule & Cost Management

• Monitor schedule performance and construction productivity
• Identify potential delays and implement corrective actions
• Support project controls including technical queries and field notices
• Manage construction phase cost risks

Commissioning & Handover

• Lead constructability reviews and Level 2 risk assessments
• Facilitate Pre-Start Readiness Reviews (PSRR)
• Support commissioning activities and final handover to operations

About You

To be successful in this role you will bring:

• Trade qualification in Mechanical Fitting or Engineering (preferred)
• Demonstrated construction leadership or supervisory experience in mining or heavy industry
• Strong experience with materials handling systems and fixed plant
• Experience with conveyors, crushers, rotating equipment, structural steel and piping
• Minimum 5+ years relevant industry experience
• Proven ability to manage contractors and multidisciplinary work fronts
• Current Manual Driver’s Licence

You will also demonstrate strong stakeholder engagement skills, the ability to work effectively within a live operational environment, and the capability to manage multiple contractor interfaces.
