Building Inspector – 8 Week Coverage
Officer | Victoria | Full-Time Hours
$60–65 per hour + Super | Flexible Field-Based Work

About the Role
This is a rare opportunity to join a multi-disciplined Building Inspector role for an 8-week full-time coverage period.
You’ll work in a supportive, friendly, and collaborative environment led by experienced professionals who are committed to mentoring and developing your skills.
This role goes beyond inspections, you’ll get involved in assessing reports and consent applications, appearing at Building Appeals Board hearings, auditing high-risk buildings for essential safety measures, preparing legal briefs, and more.
It’s field-based work with flexibility, ideal for someone with strong technical capability and a customer-centric approach.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct inspections and ensure compliance with the Building Act 1993, Building Regulations 2018, and the Building Code of Australia.
  • Investigate complaints and unsafe building works, taking appropriate enforcement action.
  • Audit fire safety in high-risk buildings and liaise with relevant agencies. 
  • Conduct joint inspections with planning compliance and environmental health teams.
  • Support the Municipal Building Surveyor with report and consent applications and assist in drafting legal briefs for enforcement matters.
  • Carry out swimming pool and spa safety barrier inspections.
  • Respond to emergency callouts and provide expert advice on building matters.
  • Contribute to the development of building policies and procedures.
What You Will Bring
  • Registration as a Registered Building Practitioner – Building Inspector(mandatory).
  • Demonstrated experience in a Building Inspector role.
  • Strong knowledge of relevant legislation, regulations, standards, and codes.
  • Local government experience is preferred.
  • Ability to work autonomously while maintaining a customer-focused, diplomatic approach.
  • Excellent communication, problem-solving, and organisational skills.
  • Current Victorian driver’s licence.
