About the Company
A long‑standing Australian consulting engineering practice with over 65 years of delivery on complex building and precinct projects across sectors including commercial, high‑rise, industrial, education, health, aged care and mixed‑use. The firm partners closely with architects, developers, builders and project managers on technically challenging projects across Australia and internationally.
About the Role
This position leads civil engineering delivery for a portfolio of building-focused urban development projects. It combines hands‑on technical authority with oversight of design teams, client relationships and project performance.
You’ll work at the front end of design, shaping schemes, resolving complex site constraints and guiding projects from concept through to detailed documentation. The role is suited to a senior engineer who prefers built‑form work over pure infrastructure, and who thrives in a studio-like environment where collaboration with architects and structural teams is central.
Key Responsibilities
• Lead civil engineering design for commercial, high‑rise, industrial, education, aged care and other complex built‑form projects.
• Develop schemes, resolve site engineering challenges and provide high‑level technical direction across the full design lifecycle.
• Manage project performance including quality, budgets, programs and client expectations.
• Maintain active relationships with clients, architects, planners, project managers and authorities.
• Mentor and guide a team of engineers and drafters, supporting their growth and capability development.
• Contribute to bids, resourcing, pipeline planning and broader team leadership.
Key Selection Criteria
• At least ten years’ civil engineering experience in a consulting environment with a strong focus on buildings and urban development.
• Demonstrated capability in early‑stage civil design, site planning, grading, servicing strategies and coordination for built‑form projects.
• Experience across high‑rise, commercial, industrial, education, health or similar sectors.
• Strong communication and client‑facing skills, with the ability to influence outcomes and navigate complex stakeholder environments.
• Proven leadership ability, ideally with experience managing or mentoring engineers.
• Comprehensive understanding of BCA requirements, Australian Standards and local authority processes.
• Relevant engineering degree and professional membership; CPEng preferred.
Desirable
• Experience in multidisciplinary coordination for large building projects.
• Involvement in industry bodies or professional committees.
• Postgraduate qualifications in engineering or related disciplines.
• Business development capability or interest in growing client relationships.
