We’re on the lookout for a dedicated APS5 Strategic Communications Officer to join a dynamic government department. This role is a fantastic opportunity for someone with a knack for crafting clear and impactful messages, helping guide large-scale communication projects and strategies. The position is looking to start ASAP and runs until December 2026, and can be based in either Geelong or Richmond. 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and deliver strategic communication plans aligned with organisational goals.
  • Provide practical advice based on policies, guidelines, and legislation.
  • Draft clear, concise messages for diverse internal audiences.
  • Support the development and execution of communication projects, including approvals and launches.
  • Build accessible communications that champion plain English and inclusivity.
  • Coordinate communication activities, manage deadlines, and ensure high-quality outputs.
  • Work effectively with internal and external stakeholders, resolving issues as they arise.
  • Act as a trusted advisor, fostering strong relationships and supporting team colleagues when needed.
You’ll thrive in this role if you bring:
  • Proven experience in delivering strategic communications within complex organisations.
  • Excellent writing and editing skills, with the ability to simplify complex info.
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to juggle multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience supporting communication strategies from start to finish.
  • The confidence to advise at all levels and build trusted relationships with stakeholders.
  • A proactive attitude and team spirit, supporting colleagues wherever needed.
  • Ability to work independently with limited supervision.
