Our client is seeking an experienced and motivated Level 4/5 Work Health & Safety Support/Assistant to join their team for a minimum 6‑month engagement. This is a fantastic opportunity to support the safety culture of one of Western Australia’s most unique and iconic destinations.
About the Role
In this role, you’ll provide hands-on operational WHS support across Rottnest Island’s diverse work environments—including trades, construction, hospitality, visitor services, utilities, and environmental operations. We’re looking for someone who is proactive, confident engaging with stakeholders, and passionate about improving safety outcomes.
Key Duties Include:
- Conducting incident investigations and developing effective corrective and preventative actions in consultation with stakeholders.
- Engaging with teams across the island—providing coaching, training, and practical WHS advice.
- Delivering operational WHS support and guidance across day-to-day activities.
- Coordinating and undertaking WHS inspections and audits as required.
- Supporting the WHS Manager across a range of safety initiatives and emerging priorities.
Required Skills, Experience & Qualifications
We are looking for candidates who can demonstrate the following:
- Qualifications and experience in Work Health & Safety (Australian nationally recognised).
- Strong understanding and application of the WHS Act 2020 (WA), WHS (General) Regulations 2022, Codes of Practice, and relevant guidance materials.
- Proven experience in incident and injury investigation using methodologies such as ICAM, 5 Whys, or equivalent.
- Experience conducting risk assessments and understanding of safety requirements related to:
- construction environments
- mobile plant & equipment
- traffic & pedestrian management
- contractor management
- hazardous substances
- Ability to interpret WHS data, identify trends, and translate insights into operational risk management.
- Demonstrated experience facilitating WHS consultations and managing stakeholder relationships.
- High-level computer literacy, strong communication skills, and high-quality documentation/report writing capability.
- Ability to work autonomously, manage competing priorities, and meet deadlines.
To be successful at interview and in this role, candidates must demonstrate:
✔ 1. WHS qualifications (Australian, nationally recognised)
A Certificate IV, Diploma, or higher is essential.
✔ 2. Genuine, practical, operational WHS experience
