Water Design Engineer (Dewatering) – Mining Sector

Initial 12-month contract, starting late September 2025
We are seeking a Water Design Engineer
with strong experience in dewatering and water infrastructure design to support key projects across mine sites. The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering detailed design packages in a safe, efficient, and cost-effective manner, aligned with relevant Australian standards and internal engineering practices.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform hydraulic modelling of pipelines, borefields, pump stations, ponds, tanks, and other water infrastructure.
- Prepare and compile comprehensive technical deliverables including scope definitions, construction drawings, material take-offs (MTO), and coordination with stakeholders.
- Lead and facilitate design reviews, incorporating field inspections, stakeholder input, and alignment with design criteria.
- Develop final engineering outputs such as pipeline schematics, general arrangements (GA), piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs), and selection of critical equipment.
- Contribute to capital estimates through quantity calculations and MTO compilation.
- Coordinate operational readiness inputs and integration into the project design.
- Monitor project timelines and escalate potential schedule risks proactively.
- Support construction teams with technical queries and update design documentation as needed.
- Produce equipment data sheets and assess vendor proposals for compliance with budget and technical specifications.
- Ensure all designs comply with statutory regulations, project requirements, and best practice engineering standards.
- Maintain clear and timely communication regarding project progress, design changes, risks, and issues.
- Collaborate with and provide support to other engineering disciplines.
Qualifications & Skills:
- Tertiary qualification in Mechanical Engineering(preferred), or Chemical/ Civil Engineering, recognised by Engineers Australia.
- 3–5 years of experience in mechanical piping and pipeline design, ideally within the mining sector or an engineering consultancy.
- Experience in mine dewatering is highly regarded.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Solid understanding of relevant engineering technologies and interdisciplinary coordination.
- Familiarity with Australian and international standards in mining and water infrastructure.
- Willingness to travel to site for short-term visits (scoping and stakeholder engagement).
- Self-motivated, with a strong track record of delivering on time and on budget.
- Competency with tools such as Visio and ArcMap(preferred).
- Creative problem-solving mindset with the ability to think outside the box.
- Full Australian working rights are essential.
