Senior Media and Events Officer (Emergency Support)
Location: Melbourne CBD
Period: Fixed-term contract | 10 November 2025 – 22 February 2026
Classification: VPS5 Equivalent ($71.49 - $86.50)

About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Senior Media and Events Officer to play a critical role in supporting emergency management communications. This is a fast-paced, dynamic role where you will contribute to proactive media strategies, event coordination, and high-level stakeholder engagement to support community safety and resilience.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and deliver proactive media strategies to manage issues and reputational risks.
  • Draft and edit media releases, speeches, briefings, and communication materials.
  • Provide expert media advice and support to senior executives and government stakeholders.
  • Coordinate press conferences, site visits, itineraries, and public events for senior officials.
  • Monitor and manage potential reputational risks, ensuring consistent and accurate messaging.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with media, executives, and key stakeholders.
  • Contribute to emergency management communications during preparedness, response, relief, and recovery phases.
About You
You are a skilled communications professional with experience in government, emergency management, or complex stakeholder environments. You will bring strong judgment, resilience, and the ability to work under pressure.

Key Skills and Experience
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver media and communication initiatives in high-pressure environments.
  • Proven writing skills across multiple channels (media, digital, speeches, newsletters, websites).
  • Experience in stakeholder engagement and media liaison at a senior level.
  • Strong organisational skills to manage events, logistics, and competing priorities.
  • Tertiary qualification in communications, media, public relations, or a related field (highly desirable).
