Banyule City Council
Banyule City Council is seeking a talented and experienced Urban Designer to join its City Futures Department and contribute to the delivery of high-quality public realm outcomes across the municipality.
This role plays a key part in facilitating urban design-led outcomes that enhance the functionality, liveability, sustainability and public value of Banyule’s places and spaces.
About the Role
As part of the Strategic Planning & Urban Design unit, you will deliver concept and detailed design solutions across a diverse range of public realm, upgrade and renewal projects, with a strong focus on activity centres and streetscape improvements.
Key responsibilities include:
- Delivering the Local Activity Centre Renewal Program, including prioritisation of design and delivery works across shopping strips
- Leading or contributing to streetscape upgrades, masterplans and public realm projects
- Managing community engagement, stakeholder consultation and liaison with Service Authorities
- Preparing cost estimates, specifications and tender documentation
- Managing procurement of external design and civil engineering consultants
- Providing specialist design advice to Capital Works and Strategic Property & Projects teams
- Ensuring infrastructure design and reinstatement works meet Council standards and achieve high-quality outcomes
- Supporting place activation initiatives such as parklets, pop-ups and public art
- Contributing to the ongoing review of the Banyule Public Realm Design Guide
- Providing technical urban design advice and referral responses across the organisation
About You
You will bring strong technical capability, sound professional judgement and a collaborative approach to delivering integrated place-based outcomes.
To be successful, you will demonstrate:
- A degree or diploma in Urban Design, Landscape Architecture or a related discipline
- Extensive experience delivering concept and detailed design plans for streetscape and public realm projects
- Experience working on complex urban design projects, ideally within local government
- Strong project and consultant management capability
- Demonstrated ability to work across multi-disciplinary teams
- Knowledge of relevant legislation, standards, codes and best practice urban and civil design principles
- Excellent stakeholder engagement, negotiation and communication skills
- Ability to manage competing priorities and respond flexibly to changing work programs
