We are currently recruiting for an Urban Designer
for our client, a local Council based in South Western Sydney. This is an initial contract until 09/01/2026 (with strong possibility of extension)
, offering flexible working arrangements (WFH TBC), at a pay rate of $65ph + super (PAYG) or $72.15ph (ABN) for 35 hours per week, Monday to Friday.
The Urban Designer
will work closely with Council’s strategic planners and urban designers to prepare high-quality documents, diagrams, and 3D models. You will help set the style, format, and digital requirements for a public-facing platform and support a range of planning and design projects including master plans, the 3D model project, Design Review Panel, DAs, and planning proposals.
Key Accountabilities:
- Contribute to updating the Development Control Plan (DCP) and other planning/design policies
- Produce sophisticated layouts, maps, diagrams, and test controls using 3D models
- Design visually appealing and accessible documents and graphics
- Conduct scenario testing using 3D modelling software such as Giraffe (training available)
- Collaborate with planners, designers, and internal stakeholders to ensure project success
- Maintain high standards in documentation and graphics while meeting project timelines
- Support delivery of master plans, the 3D model project, and other initiatives
- Perform other duties aligned with your skills to support the City Strategy and Design Unit
- Minimum 3–5 years’ experience in urban design, 3D modelling, and visualisation
- Strong graphic skills with proficiency in Giraffe, SketchUp, AutoCAD, ArcGIS, Adobe Creative Suite, and Microsoft Office
- Demonstrated experience in preparing urban design and planning reports
- Proven ability to produce sophisticated document layouts and designs
- Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail
- Strong communication skills and ability to work independently and in a team
- Experience consulting with diverse stakeholders
- Knowledge of accessible design standards
- Passion for creating clear, concise, and well-organised design documents
