Underground Fixed Plant Mechanical Technician 

Join our team as an Underground Fixed Plant Mechanical Technician and play a critical role in maintaining and optimising essential fixed plant equipment within an underground mining environment. This is an excellent opportunity to work on key infrastructure that supports safe, reliable, and efficient operations at a dynamic site.

We are seeking a trade-qualified, safety-focused technician with strong maintenance and fault-finding capabilities who thrives in a challenging underground environment.

About the Role: You will be responsible for the maintenance, inspection, and repair of underground fixed plant and associated infrastructure, ensuring equipment availability and compliance with safety standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform preventative maintenance and routine servicing on fixed plant equipment including crushers (jaw, cone, impact), conveyors, screens, feeders, pumps, compressors, ventilation fans, and ore handling systems

  • Maintain underground workshop equipment such as hydraulic presses, hoists, and tools

  • Support underground infrastructure and utilities including dewatering systems, water supply, hydraulic and compressed air systems, and cooling systems

  • Diagnose faults and carry out breakdown repairs, including replacement of bearings, belts, pulleys, and rollers

  • Undertake welding and fabrication tasks as required

  • Fit, align, and commission mechanical components

  • Conduct safety inspections and maintain accurate maintenance records

  • Work safely within fixed underground locations such as crusher chambers, pump stations, and conveyor drives

Required Skills and Experience
  • Trade qualification in Mechanical Fitting or equivalent

  • Minimum 2 years’ experience maintaining fixed plant equipment in underground or surface mining environments

  • Strong knowledge of hydraulics and pneumatics

  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and schematics

  • Experience with welding and basic fabrication

  • Proven preventative maintenance and troubleshooting capability

Desirable (Nice to Have)
  • Experience with hoisting shafts, winding systems, and headframes

  • Knowledge of underground dewatering systems

  • Exposure to surface or underground ventilation fans

  • Valid White Card and HRWL tickets

  • HR driver’s licence

  • Working at Heights and Confined Space certifications

Additional Requirements
  • Manual Australian Driver’s Licence

  • Ability to work in confined spaces and at heights

  • Strong commitment to safety and statutory compliance

  • Willingness and fitness to work underground in demanding conditions

This is a three-month contract with the potential for extension based on performance and operational requirements.
