Tool Maker

Chandler Macleod is recruiting a skilled Tool Maker for a production team located in the south-eastern suburbs of Melbourne. You will cut, shape, and join metals with precision, producing high-quality components for the Trucking, Defence, and Caravan industries. This is a hands-on role where you will work with the latest welding equipment and technology, contributing to a team committed to quality, safety, and continuous improvement.
 
What You’ll Do

• Interpret drawings, symbols, and specifications for welding operations.
• Set up and calibrate MIG/TIG welding equipment per WPS.
• Weld metals in horizontal, vertical, and flat positions.
• Secure, adjust, and align components using hand tools, jigs, clamps, and measuring instruments.
• Cut, shape, bend, and finish metal parts using hand and machine tools.
• Examine welds for bead size, penetration, and precision.
• Maintain quality records, perform SPC charting, and follow ISO-compliant procedures.
• Follow Environmental Management System guidelines and maintain a safe, organised workspace.

• Experience in metal fabrication, boilermaking, or vehicle body building.
• Proven MIG/TIG welding experience in a manufacturing environment.
• Ability to read and interpret technical drawings.
• Current driver’s license and reliable transport.
• Strong mechanical problem-solving skills.
• Knowledge of ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 quality systems.
