Theatre Orderly 

Pay Rate: $35–$45 per hour
Location: Carlton, VIC

A leading healthcare service is seeking a dedicated and proactive Theatre Orderly to join its Day Surgery Unit. This role is vital in supporting safe, efficient, and high‑quality surgical services within a dynamic clinical environment.

About the Role The Theatre Orderly supports patient flow, theatre preparation, equipment handling, and general operational duties. Working closely with nursing staff, anaesthetists, and theatre technicians, you will help ensure seamless theatre operations and excellent patient care.

Key Responsibilities Patient Support & Transport

  • Safely transfer and position patients using beds, wheelchairs, recliners, and trolleys.
  • Assist with basic patient care under supervision.
  • Prepare beds and trolleys to support efficient patient flow.
  • Ensure safe handling of patient belongings.
Theatre & Equipment Support
  • Set up and clean theatres between cases.
  • Move equipment and furniture when required.
  • Maintain and restock linen, blanket warmers, and uniform trolleys.
  • Ensure equipment is clean, organised, and ready for use.
Housekeeping & Logistics
  • Maintain safe, uncluttered pathways and exits.
  • Perform cleaning, linen management, and restocking throughout the theatre complex.
  • Keep storerooms tidy and manage waste appropriately.
  • Restock and clean common areas, including the staff tearoom.
Courier & Delivery Duties
  • Transport items such as medications, specimens, documents, and supplies between departments.
  • Deliver goods and paperwork across the facility as needed.
General Responsibilities
  • Contribute to a safe, healthy, and environmentally responsible workplace.
  • Participate in ongoing professional development and goal‑setting.
Mandatory Requirements
  • Strong understanding of patient flow within theatre settings.
  • Knowledge of operating theatre and day surgery environments.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Demonstrated customer service experience.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication.
  • Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Knowledge of hygiene principles, including infection control.
  • Compliance with Occupational Health & Safety practices.
  • Ability to manage challenging clients appropriately.
  • Strong manual handling and patient positioning skills.
  • Ability to work independently and under pressure.
  • Experience working closely with Anaesthetists, Nurses, and Theatre Technicians.
Desirable Skills & Experience
  • Experience in public health environments.
  • Experience using patient management systems (e.g., Titanium).
  • Knowledge of dental or oral health procedures.
