About the Opportunity
We’re supporting a leading multi‑sector university of technology, design and enterprise
with a global reputation for excellence in teaching, research, and industry engagement. Their Technical Services teams play a vital role in enabling safe, high‑quality learning and research environments across the university.
They are seeking a Technical Officer – Mechanical & Materials Testing
to provide hands‑on support across mechanical testing laboratories, ensuring equipment, processes, and results meet the highest standards of accuracy and safety.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct a range of mechanical and materials tests in accordance with established standards and procedures
- Prepare, calibrate, and maintain laboratory equipment and instrumentation
- Support sample preparation, lab setup, and general workflow coordination
- Record, analyse, and report test data with strong attention to detail
- Contribute to quality assurance and continuous improvement initiatives
- Maintain a safe working environment and follow all compliance protocols
About You
You’re technically minded, organised, and confident working in a laboratory setting. You enjoy problem‑solving and ensuring equipment and processes operate efficiently and safely.
You will ideally bring:
- Experience in mechanical and/or materials testing within a lab or technical workshop
- Familiarity with standards such as ISO, NATA, or Australian Standards
- Strong documentation and data recording skills
- Sound understanding of lab equipment, tools, and instrumentation
- Relevant qualifications in engineering, materials science, or a related field (desirable)
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast‑paced technical environment
