Technical Officer – Medical Radiation (Health Biosciences)
Location: Bundoora West
Hours: 36 per week
Salary:$62.48 per hour (HEW 6) + on‑costs
Contract: ASAP – 31 August 2026
On‑site Requirement: Full‑time, on campus (Bundoora West)

Join our Health Biosciences team and support teaching and research across Medical Imaging, Nuclear Medicine and Radiation Therapy. This role is ideal for an experienced technical professional with strong knowledge of medical radiation equipment, safety standards, and laboratory operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operate, maintain and train staff/students on medical radiation equipment and simulation software.
  • Support practical classes, lab preparation, troubleshooting and equipment setup.
  • Manage sealed (Ra‑226, Am‑241, Cs‑137, Co‑60, Ba‑133, Na‑22) and unsealed sources (e.g., 99mTc) safely.
  • Ensure compliance with Victorian radiation regulations and institutional licence conditions.
  • Conduct radiation calculations, OSL dosimetry, safety inductions and routine lab safety checks.
  • Maintain lab infrastructure, digital systems, stock levels and preventative maintenance schedules.
About You
  • Experience in Medical Imaging, Nuclear Medicine or Radiation Therapy labs.
  • Skilled in handling, storing and disposing of radioactive materials.
  • Strong understanding of radiation safety and regulatory compliance.
  • Excellent technical, organisational and communication skills.
Required Qualifications & Licences
  • Degree in Medical Radiation Sciences or related discipline.
  • Current Victorian Individual Radiation Use Licence.
  • Valid Working with Children Check.
Desirable
  • Experience with equipment procurement/installation.
  • Knowledge of VERT, Eclipse, Syngo.Via, CT simulation software.
  • Experience in academic or research environments.
