Specialist Mechanical Engineer

Client: Rio Tinto Yarwun
Roster: 5/2 - 40 hours per week
Duration:   Contract through to December 2026
Rate:$95.61 per hour plus superannuation
Start: Immediate
 
Chandler Macleod is partnering with our client, Rio Tinto, to recruit a Specialist Mechanical Engineer to join the Yarwun site in Gladstone on a contract through to the end of 2026.  This is a site‑based role at Yarwun, supporting the integrity, safety and reliability of critical plant assets within a world‑class industrial operation.
 
About the Role
Based full‑time on the Yarwun site, you will provide senior mechanical engineering and asset integrity support across pressure equipment, piping systems, pumps, mills and digesters. Working closely with site Operations and Maintenance teams, you will support safe, reliable and compliant plant operations through strong technical leadership and sound engineering judgement.
 
Key Responsibilities

• Provide senior mechanical engineering support on the Yarwun site
• Lead and support Risk‑Based Inspections and Fitness‑for‑Service assessments
• Conduct root cause failure investigations and technical problem solving
• Support pressure equipment compliance and asset lifecycle management
• Review and oversee outsourced engineering scopes and deliverables
• Coach and mentor engineers on site
• Collaborate closely with site‑based operations and maintenance teams

 
About You

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering
• Proven experience in heavy industry or asset‑intensive environments
• Strong knowledge of pressure equipment and integrity frameworks
• Proven experience with RBI, FFS and failure analysis
• RPEQ registration (or immediate eligibility and willingness to obtain)
• Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills
