About the Role

The Agency is looking for a Senior Training Design Officer (APS6) to help create and deliver culturally safe and inclusive training programs that support workforce capability and positive outcomes for First Nations people with disability. This is an identified role, which means the position is specifically for candidates who can demonstrate a strong understanding of and commitment to cultural safety.
The Officer will work closely with internal teams and First Nations stakeholders to design learning solutions that reflect cultural knowledge, lived experience, and adult learning principles. The Officer will also help coordinate training projects, develop learning materials, and improve programs to meet strategic priorities and support staff wellbeing.

Responsibilities

  • Design training packages including learning objectives, content, delivery methods, and evaluation tools.
  • Apply adult learning and instructional design principles to create engaging and inclusive experiences.
  • Co-design training materials with First Nations stakeholders to ensure cultural safety and relevance.
  • Develop learning resources such as facilitator guides, participant materials, eLearning modules, and induction content.
  • Collaborate with HR, L&D, and operational teams to align training with workforce needs and strategy.
  • Pilot training packages, collect feedback, and improve content and delivery.
  • Monitor training effectiveness and contribute to executive reporting.
  • Promote staff wellbeing through culturally safe and inclusive learning design.
  • Coordinate external training vendors to ensure quality and cultural appropriateness.
  • Support workforce capability planning by embedding cultural safety and inclusive practices.
  • Track project progress, timelines, and budgets, and report as required.
  • Represent the branch in forums and working groups related to cultural safety and workforce development.
  • Provide advice on learning and development initiatives to support the Agency’s goals.

You Must Have
  • Experience in instructional design, adult learning, and training development.
  • Strong understanding of cultural safety and First Nations perspectives.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and complex projects.
  • Excellent communication, facilitation, and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Commitment to inclusive practices, trauma-informed approaches, and continuous improvement.


Qualifications
  • Relevant qualifications in education, training, human resources, or a related field.
  • Certificate IV in Training and Assessment (TAE40122 or equivalent) is highly desirable.
  • Experience working in or with First Nations communities is highly regarded.
