We are currently recruiting for a Senior Strategic Planner
to join a Local Council, based in southwestern Sydney. This is a contract role from 01/09/2025 to 01/03/2026, working 35 hours per week. Work-from-home arrangements and office days are to be confirmed. The pay rate is $100.75ph + super (PAYG) / $110.82ph (ABN).
This position sits within the City Strategy & Design team and reports to the Coordinator Strategic Assessments. You’ll be working in a fast-paced environment with strategic planning and State Significant Developmen
t projects underway across short and long-term horizons.
The role focuses on creating a beautiful and liveable city through the assessment of major development and rezoning proposals, contributing to planning and design policy, and negotiating planning agreements. You’ll be expected to hit the ground running and bring a high level of technical proficiency, strong negotiation and report writing skills, and a deep understanding of good design outcomes.
Key Accountabilities
- Assess and progress Council and applicant-initiated planning proposals.
- Lead negotiations of Planning Agreements to maximise community outcomes.
- Prepare submissions and manage negotiations on State Significant Developments.
- Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders and manage specialist consultants.
- Prepare advice for Council and its Local Planning Panel.
- Participate in community engagement and ensure planning compliance.
- Improve Council’s planning systems and processes.
- Review Section 10.7 Planning Certificates for accuracy.
- Tertiary qualifications in town planning, urban design, or related built form disciplines.
- Demonstrated experience in strategic planning, including rezoning and planning proposals.
- Strong understanding of planning legislation, policies, and instruments.
- Experience negotiating Planning Agreements in government or private sector.
- Ability to manage complex projects and deliver within deadlines and budgets.
- Experience working with diverse stakeholders and multidisciplinary teams.
- Familiarity with GIS is desirable.
- Current Class C Driver’s Licence.
