Senior Cost Controller

Location: Perth CBD
Roster: 5:2 | 9 hours per day
Contract: ASAP start | 12-month assignment

Overview
An opportunity is available for an experienced Senior Cost Controller to support a portfolio of sustaining capital projects within a large-scale mining operation. Reporting to the Principal – Operations Projects, this role plays a critical part in delivering accurate cost management, forecasting, and performance reporting across non-process infrastructure and dewatering projects supporting Pilbara operations.
The successful candidate will bring strong expertise across cost control, project controls, commercial and construction activities, and will contribute to the ongoing development of cost control capability within the project team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Implement and maintain cost management systems, processes and procedures to ensure consistency across budget tracking, forecasting, cashflow and performance analysis
  • Manage project cost and progress reporting, providing accurate and timely insights to the project management team and identifying corrective actions as required
  • Support and mentor cost controllers and junior cost controllers
  • Take ownership of key cost control functions, including:
    • Value of Work Done (VOWD), performance measurement, commitment phasing and management of change
    • Oversight of work packages to ensure compliance with approved Project Controls Plans
    • Participation in weekly and monthly meetings with contractors and scope owners, providing guidance on cost-related matters
    • Consolidation and reporting of VOWD, Estimate to Complete (ETC) and Estimate at Completion (EAC)
    • Application of Earned Value Management (EVM) techniques to analyse progress and project performance
    • Ensuring forecasts reflect current project scope and schedules
    • Invoice review, accrual establishment, cost allocation to cost centres and WBS
    • Monthly reporting and variance analysis
    • Supporting the Management of Change process through Project Change Notices (PCN) and cost trends
    • Supporting Purchase Requisition and Purchase Order processes
    • Validation of contractor progress claims and invoices
    • Maintaining accuracy between cost management systems and SAP, escalating significant variances
    • Coordinating and presenting monthly cost forecast reports to internal and external stakeholders
    • Facilitating monthly cost forecast reviews with Project Managers and Directors
    • Supporting quarterly capital planning and project closeout activities
  • Build and maintain strong working relationships with internal and external stakeholders
About You
Experience
  • Minimum 6 years’ experience in project controls or cost control roles
  • Experience within resources, renewable energy, or complex engineering and construction environments
  • Proven capability managing cost control for mid to large-scale capital projects
  • Strong understanding of project control principles, cost forecasting, cashflow analysis and reporting
  • Demonstrated experience with cost control systems, financial systems and reporting tools
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Sound understanding of contracting, procurement and project services disciplines
  • High-level communication skills with experience presenting to senior management
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel and MS Office skills
  • Experience with Omega PIMS or CMS cost systems (desirable) and SAP
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering and/or Commerce/Finance
  • Project Management or internationally recognised Project Controls certification (desirable)
