Our client AGL is seeking an experienced Senior Android Developer to join a high-performing agile team delivering modern, customer-focused mobile applications. This contract role in Melbourne CBD offers the opportunity to work on large-scale digital products with strong technical influence and ownership. This is a six month contract role in a hybrid working environment

About the Role
As a Senior Android Developer, you’ll work across design, development, testing, and deployment of Android applications. You’ll collaborate closely with engineering leads, architects, UX designers, and other mobile engineers to deliver high-quality, well‑designed features that enhance the customer experience.

This role suits someone who enjoys technical problem‑solving, contributes positively to team culture, and is motivated by continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and enhance Android applications using modern best practices
  • Translate business requirements into deliverable technical solutions
  • Build high-quality features with strong unit, UI, and integration test coverage
  • Work with CI/CD pipelines and automation tools
  • Collaborate with UX/design to deliver polished and intuitive mobile experiences
  • Participate in agile ceremonies and contribute to team delivery
  • Share knowledge and mentor junior engineers
  • Support continuous improvement across performance, reliability, and security
What We’re Looking For
  • Proven experience in Android development
  • Strong skills with Kotlin, Coroutines, Retrofit, and Espresso
  • Solid understanding of Material Design and Android app best practices
  • Experience across iOS and .net
  • Experience working with CI/CD (Azure DevOps ideal)
  • Knowledge of REST APIs, TDD, and mobile app security (OWASP)
  • Experience with performance monitoring tools (New Relic, Android Vitals, App Insights)
  • Familiarity with Jira and Confluence
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills
  • Experience working in agile teams; SAFe experience highly regarded
  • Experience with backend‑for‑frontend (BFF) architectures is an advantage
