Our client AGL is seeking an experienced Senior Android Developer to join a high-performing agile team delivering modern, customer-focused mobile applications. This contract role in Melbourne CBD offers the opportunity to work on large-scale digital products with strong technical influence and ownership. This is a six month contract role in a hybrid working environment
About the Role
As a Senior Android Developer, you’ll work across design, development, testing, and deployment of Android applications. You’ll collaborate closely with engineering leads, architects, UX designers, and other mobile engineers to deliver high-quality, well‑designed features that enhance the customer experience.
This role suits someone who enjoys technical problem‑solving, contributes positively to team culture, and is motivated by continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and enhance Android applications using modern best practices
- Translate business requirements into deliverable technical solutions
- Build high-quality features with strong unit, UI, and integration test coverage
- Work with CI/CD pipelines and automation tools
- Collaborate with UX/design to deliver polished and intuitive mobile experiences
- Participate in agile ceremonies and contribute to team delivery
- Share knowledge and mentor junior engineers
- Support continuous improvement across performance, reliability, and security
- Proven experience in Android development
- Strong skills with Kotlin, Coroutines, Retrofit, and Espresso
- Solid understanding of Material Design and Android app best practices
- Experience across iOS and .net
- Experience working with CI/CD (Azure DevOps ideal)
- Knowledge of REST APIs, TDD, and mobile app security (OWASP)
- Experience with performance monitoring tools (New Relic, Android Vitals, App Insights)
- Familiarity with Jira and Confluence
- Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills
- Experience working in agile teams; SAFe experience highly regarded
- Experience with backend‑for‑frontend (BFF) architectures is an advantage
