About the role
We’re looking for an experienced Public Affairs
Officer on a 12 week temporary basis
to take charge of internal communications across allocated business units. This role is pivotal in building trust, boosting engagement, and enhancing the Town’s reputation—helping make Hedland a better place to live and work.
Reporting to the Principal Public Affairs and Manager Public Affairs, you’ll lead the development and delivery of the internal communications strategy, connecting teams, aligning messaging, and ensuring the people are informed, empowered, and engaged.
What you’ll do
- Lead and deliver internal communications strategy to strengthen employee engagement.
- Oversee internal communications channels and branding.
- Act as the central link between business units for consistent messaging.
- Manage external suppliers and budgets, from brief to delivery.
- Research best practice communications approaches and apply them effectively.
- Create, measure, and refine communication and marketing plans.
- Contribute to broader Public Affairs strategies and initiatives.
- Build and maintain strong partnerships with internal teams, community organisations, and service providers.
- Uphold WHS and legislative compliance, and champion values of unity, quality, and integrity.
Essential:
- Extensive experience in strategic communications, including internal and digital communications.
- Exceptional written, verbal, and interpersonal skills.
- Proven ability to manage multi-channel communications and engagement collateral.
- Strong project management skills, able to juggle multiple priorities and meet tight deadlines.
- Collaborative approach with a track record of building relationships at all levels.
- Skills in videography, photography, creative design, and Adobe Creative Suite.
- Experience in local government or the wider public sector.
