Project Engineer – Structures
3–6 month contract | Hybrid | Melbourne CBD | $100–$120 per hour + super

We’re seeking an experienced Project Engineer  to join a major asset renewal and maintenance program supporting rail infrastructure across Victoria.
This role is responsible for preparing and developing project briefs for structural and civil assets as part of the Major Periodic Maintenance (MPM) Program, focused on renewing, repairing, and extending the life of existing rail assets.
You’ll scope and validate works, facilitate stakeholder workshops, and ensure project briefs meet both technical and operational requirements within tight timelines.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare project briefs for structures and civil assets in line with the MPM Framework.
  • Conduct desktop assessments and site validations to define accurate project scopes.
  • Facilitate workshops with internal and external stakeholders to confirm scope and priorities.
  • Manage documentation such as change requests and risk assessments.
  • Support early site investigations and represent the client during rail occupations.
About You You’re a qualified engineer with proven experience in rail infrastructure (mandatory) and a strong understanding of civil and structural works.You thrive in dynamic environments, managing competing deadlines while maintaining accuracy and collaboration.

Essential:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.
  • Minimum 2-5 years’ experience in rail infrastructure.
  • Proven ability to manage scope, design, and delivery of rail works.
  • Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
Desirable:
  • Experience in asset management or project coordination.
  • Current or obtainable RIW (Rail Industry Worker) Certificate.
