About the Role
On behalf of the Preston City Council, we are seeking a Procurement & Contracts Support Partner for a six-month contract. This role has been created to help streamline procurement activities, support contract administration, and promote continuous improvement across the organisation. The successful candidate will play a key part in managing contracts, providing training and guidance, and ensuring compliance with relevant policies and legislation. Key responsibilities include:
- Managing the full lifecycle of contracts from award to completion
- Monitoring contract activities to ensure adherence to policies, procedures, and legislation
- Providing procurement guidance and delivering training to council staff
- Supporting and maintaining the Council’s Contract Management System (CMS)
- Developing and producing reports on procurement and contract performance
- Assisting with procurement projects and process improvements
- Ensuring purchasing activities are compliant with legislative and policy requirements
- Building and maintaining strong relationships with internal teams and external suppliers
- Supporting continuous improvement initiatives in procurement processes
The ideal candidate will bring a blend of experience, skills, and attributes such as:
- Proven experience in public sector procurement, tendering, and contract management
- Knowledge of local council practices and relevant legislation (desirable)
- Experience with procurement systems, processes, and best practices
- Excellent written communication skills for preparing tender and contractual documentation
- High proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel
- Strong analytical skills with attention to detail, particularly around spend and compliance
- Ability to juggle multiple priorities and meet tight deadlines
- Excellent relationship-building and stakeholder management skills
- Proactive, self-motivated, and solution-oriented mindset
