We are proud to be partnering with a leading government organisation on their search for a Principal WHS and Rail Safety Advisor to support the delivery of a major rail infrastructure project in Queensland. This is a unique opportunity to contribute to transformative transport initiatives ahead of the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
As the Principal WHS and Rail Safety Advisor, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring the safe delivery of the Beerburrum to Nambour Rail Upgrade Project. This hands-on position will see you embedded within the project team, providing expert safety leadership both in the field and at the governance level.
You’ll be responsible for implementing and monitoring WHS and Rail Safety assurance processes, engaging directly with contractors, supervisors, and workers to drive best practice outcomes. This role is ideal for a safety professional who thrives in dynamic environments and is passionate about making a tangible impact on-site.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide visible safety leadership across worksites through inspections, observations, and engagement.
- Collaborate with contractors and stakeholders to ensure safe systems of work are understood and followed.
- Lead incident response and investigations, ensuring effective corrective actions.
- Facilitate risk assessments and toolbox talks to promote proactive hazard management.
- Conduct audits and verification activities to ensure compliance with WHS and Rail Safety standards.
- Translate field insights into clear, actionable reports for project leadership.
- Champion continuous improvement initiatives based on field observations and incident trends.
Essential Qualifications & Experience:
- Tertiary qualifications in WHS, Business, or related discipline.
- Strong knowledge of WHS legislation, Rail Safety National Law, and relevant standards.
- Proven experience in WHS management systems and field application.
- Background in large-scale rail or infrastructure projects.
- Ability to engage and influence contractors and project teams.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and digital safety reporting tools.
Desirable:
- Experience with ONRSR and OFSC.
- Internal Auditor certification.
- ICAM Lead Investigator accreditation.
