Context of the Role
An exciting opportunity exists for a Principal Project Officer
within the Infrastructure Investment and Finance Unit. This Unit contains six teams: Budget Development, Budget Governance, Portfolio Performance Reporting, Infrastructure Accounting, Priority Programs, and Finance Services. The role will be based in Budget Development, contributing to the analysis and development of the Division’s Infrastructure Investment Portfolio (IIP), and supporting portfolio performance monitoring and reporting activities.
Key Accountabilities
- Review, analyse, and contribute to budget adjustments and submissions for the IIP.
- Interrogate SAP data to identify trends, correct budget gaps, and provide actionable insights.
- Prepare and coordinate correspondence, estimates briefs, cabinet requests, submissions, reports, and briefing materials related to budget matters.
- Translate complex data and ideas into clear, audience-appropriate information.
- Work closely with Executives, Program Directors, and Project Coordinators to support IIP management.
- Build and maintain positive relationships with internal and external stakeholders, networks, and service providers.
- Contribute to continuous improvement of Portfolio Investment unit processes and deliverables.
- Undertake other duties as required, consistent with the responsibilities of the role.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to assess large datasets, identify gaps, investigate anomalies, and resolve issues.
- Experienced in data manipulation and reporting using Excel, Power BI, or similar tools.
- Knowledge of budget management, trend mapping, problem-solving, and reporting within government contexts.
- Skilled in synthesising complex information for a variety of audiences, including reports, executive briefs, and correspondence.
- Demonstrated stakeholder engagement, consultation, and negotiation skills, with confidence in building relationships at all levels.
- Highly organised, with strong time management and attention to detail.
- Prior experience using SAP and advanced Excel skills.
- Power BI experience is desirable.
- Experience supporting programs and projects within government.
- Formal qualifications in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline are desirable but not mandatory.
