Start Date: Early October 2025

About the Role:

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Principal Mining Engineer to join a dynamic study team working on a world-class iron ore project. This role will be pivotal in shaping the future of a major mining project, one of the world’s largest undeveloped high-grade hematite deposits.

Based in Perth CBD, you’ll lead the mining engineering efforts throughout the study phases, from scoping through to feasibility, ensuring the project’s technical and operational strategies are aligned with its goals and objectives.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead Mining Study: Oversee the mining components of the project study, including mine planning, pit optimisation, production strategies, and cost-effective solutions.
  • Collaboration & Integration: Work closely with geology, geotechnical, environmental, and other teams to deliver integrated and high-quality study outcomes.
  • Technical Leadership: Provide strategic direction and act as the technical authority on mining engineering matters.
  • Report Development: Contribute to the mining section of the study report, ensuring the content meets high standards and can be released to external stakeholders.
  • Risk Management: Contribute to risk assessments and the identification of key project risks, ensuring mitigation strategies are in place.
  • Consultant Oversight: Oversee external consultants and contractors, ensuring quality deliverables and maintaining a strong feedback loop with the study team.
  • Site Visits: Participate in site visits to the project to understand terrain, infrastructure, and mine layout designs.
Required Experience & Qualifications:
  • 12+ years of experience in large-scale mining projects, particularly in open-pit iron ore or bulk commodities.
  • Strong expertise in mine planning, strategic evaluation, and project development, with specific knowledge of high rainfall, rugged terrain, and challenging environments.
  • Proficient in mining software such as GEOVIA Whittle, Minemax Scheduler, and dilution modelling.
  • Operational experience and familiarity with JORC Code reporting requirements.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mining Engineering or equivalent (Postgraduate qualifications in mining, business, or project management are a plus).
Why Apply?
This is an exceptional opportunity to join a high-calibre team working on a major international project. You'll contribute to shaping the future of mining, working with cutting-edge technologies and a global team of experts.
If you are a driven professional with a passion for mining and project development, we’d love to hear from you!
