Are you an experienced payroll professional who enjoys working with precision, collaboration, and purpose? We are seeking a Payroll Officer
to join a dedicated People and Safety team supporting more than 3,500 staff across 45 vibrant Catholic school communities.
As part of a well-respected Catholic education organisation, you’ll play a key role in ensuring accurate and timely payroll services while contributing to an environment that fosters care, inclusion, and excellence in education.
About the Role
Reporting to the Team Leader, Payroll, you will be responsible for processing a high volume of payroll transactions using EmpowerHR, ensuring compliance with relevant awards, enterprise agreements, and organisational policies. You’ll work closely with HR and finance teams to ensure accuracy and efficiency while contributing to the ongoing improvement of payroll processes.
Key responsibilities include:
- Processing payroll data accurately and efficiently using EmpowerHR software
- Applying relevant award and enterprise agreement knowledge
- Ensuring compliance with organisational policies and employment legislation
- Collaborating with HR, Recruitment, and Finance teams to resolve payroll queries
- Supporting the successful migration and testing of data for system enhancements
- Contributing to continuous improvement initiatives and project deliverables
You’re a detail-oriented payroll professional who enjoys working in a collaborative, values-based environment. You bring strong technical ability, a proactive approach to problem-solving, and a commitment to service excellence.
You will bring:
- 3+ years’ experience in a payroll role within a medium to large organisation
- Strong working knowledge of payroll legislation, awards, and agreements
- High-level accuracy and attention to detail
- Strong skills in Microsoft Excel and payroll systems (EmpowerHR experience highly regarded)
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills
- Certificate III or IV in Payroll, Business, or a related field (desirable)
- Current Australian driver’s licence and eligibility to work in Australia
- National Police Check (or ability to obtain)

- Remuneration $96,379 per annum + 12% superannuation
- Office locations: Lismore NSW, or Coffs Harbour NSW
- Work hours: 7-hour day, 35-hour week, 70-hour fortnight. Business hours are generally between 8:30am - 4:30pm, or 9am - 5pm.
