Hours: Part-time 2-3 days per week during semesters and full-time during Uni holidays
 
About the Role

The Student Engineer (Electrical) position provides structured, paid industry experience that complements your university studies. You will have the opportunity to apply your academic knowledge to real-world projects, gaining exposure to asset management, electrical design, project delivery, and commissioning activities.
This role is offered on a part-time basis during semesters (2–3 days per week), with the option to work full-time during university holidays, providing flexibility while supporting your professional development.


Key Responsibilities

  • Provide technical support on electrical engineering aspects of Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS), traffic signals, road lighting, and related electrical applications.
  • Assist with the investigation and analysis of engineering designs and projects, applying relevant legislation, standards, and engineering principles.
  • Contribute to the planning, design, and delivery of ITS, electrical, and infrastructure projects within agreed scope, time, cost, and quality expectations.
  • Support the preparation of electrical and communications system designs for ITS and related applications.
  • Participate in multi-disciplinary project teams involved in delivering ITS infrastructure.
  • Assist in applying asset management strategies, including maintenance and refurbishment planning.
  • Prepare technical reports, provide clear written and verbal advice, and respond to enquiries as required.

Selection Criteria

Mandatory Requirements:
  • Current enrolment in a Bachelor of Engineering or dual-degree equivalence (electrical or related discipline).
  • Valid Class C driver’s licence.
  • Construction Industry Induction (White Card).
  • Ability to provide suitable Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
  • Ability to undertake and pass Criminal History Screening.

  • A proactive approach to learning and applying engineering concepts in practice.
