Major Projects Officer
Local Government | Melton, VIC
Contract: January – April 2026
Rate: $69 per hour + super

We are partnering with a local government authority in Melbourne’s west to recruit an experienced Major Projects Officer for a short-term contract from January to April 2026.
This role will support the delivery of a range of major capital projects and work closely with senior project leadership to ensure projects are delivered in line with Council’s Project Management Framework, within scope, budget, and timeframes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the management and delivery of major projects across the full project lifecycle, from planning through to construction and handover
  • Support the Head of Major Projects in program management and the coordination of Council’s major projects delivery program
  • Prepare and provide regular project reports to Project Owners, Project Control Groups, and Working Groups
  • Assist with financial management including budget control, procurement, tendering, contract administration, variations, and payments
  • Coordinate and liaise with internal staff, consultants, and external contractors
  • Ensure compliance with Council policies, procedures, procurement frameworks, and legislative and OHS requirements
  • Contribute specialist project management advice to other service units as required
About You:
  • Qualifications in Project Management or a related discipline, or extensive relevant experience in major project delivery
  • Demonstrated experience delivering major works programs, particularly in building, facilities, open space, or civil infrastructure
  • Strong experience in project management, contract management, procurement, and financial reporting
  • Well-developed skills using project management, financial and reporting systems (MS Office essential; CAD, GIS or document control systems desirable)
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects, set priorities, and meet deadlines with minimal supervision
  • Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively across multidisciplinary teams
  • Ability to adapt to changing project environments and apply sound judgement to complex problems
  • Current valid Victorian driver’s licence
