About the Company
We are partnering with a dedicated local government authority based in Preston, committed to maintaining a clean, safe, and vibrant community. Their focus is on preserving public spaces, enforcing local laws, and fostering an inclusive environment where everyone feels valued. With a strong emphasis on environmental responsibility and excellent service delivery, they aim to keep Preston’s community areas attractive and well-managed.
About the Role
We are currently recruiting for a proactive Litter Enforcement Officer on behalf of our client in Preston. This fixed-term opportunity runs from early November 2025 through to January 2026, perfect for someone eager to contribute to community wellbeing and environmental protection. The primary purpose of this role is to oversee litter and illegal dumping issues, ensuring offenders are held accountable while supporting community education initiatives.
If you’re passionate about making a tangible difference in your community, this is a fantastic chance to get involved in a role that combines enforcement, community service, and environmental stewardship.
Key Responsibilities include:
- Investigating reports of illegal dumping and rubbish dumping across Preston’s public spaces, roads, and car parks.
- Monitoring known hot spots to deter littering and gathering evidence through video footage or other means.
- Issuing notices to comply and infringement notices in line with relevant legislation, and prosecuting offenders when necessary.
- Attending court to give evidence and preparing reports for prosecutions.
- Staying informed about legislative changes affecting litter enforcement and smoothly adapting to new requirements.
- Collaborating with external agencies like EPA, police, Vic Roads, and legal bodies to support enforcement and community initiatives.
- Providing friendly, professional service to community members and internal teams.
- Educating the public about local laws and encouraging community participation in litter reduction efforts.
The ideal candidate is someone who:
- Has previous experience in enforcement, investigation, or a related community compliance role (or a genuine interest in community and environmental issues).
- Is familiar with relevant legislation, including the Environment Protection Act and local laws.
- Possesses excellent communication skills with a confident, approachable manner.
- Is well-organised, detail-oriented, and capable of managing evidence and reports accurately.
- Can work independently, whilst also being a team player.
- Demonstrates a strong passion for maintaining clean, healthy public spaces and fostering community pride.
