Overview
Are you passionate about governance and compliance? We are seeking an Access to Information Officer to join a dynamic team and play a key role in ensuring transparency and accountability in accordance with the Government Information (Public Access) Act 2009 (GIPA Act).
About the Role
As an Access to Information Officer, you will:
- Process formal and informal requests for government information under the GIPA Act.
- Manage subpoenas, summonses, and agency requests for Council records.
- Ensure compliance with legislative requirements, including privacy and reporting obligations.
- Maintain templates, registers, and monitoring tools for information access processes.
- Provide advice and support to internal stakeholders on governance and legislative matters.
- Assist with governance projects, policy development, and staff training.
- Assess and determine requests for information.
- Liaise with internal departments and external agencies.
- Prepare notices of decision and manage third-party consultations.
- Report on access applications and maintain accurate records.
- Support compliance with privacy legislation and other relevant acts.
- Relevant administration qualification and/or minimum two years’ experience in a similar role.
- Experience in government administration (Local, State, or Federal).
- Strong understanding of legislative frameworks such as GIPA Act, Privacy Act, and related regulations.
- Excellent organisational skills with the ability to meet statutory timeframes.
- High-level written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and work in a politically sensitive environment.
- Knowledge of Work Health and Safety, Equal Employment Opportunity principles, and multicultural diversity.
- Understanding of public interest tests in administrative decisions.
