About the Role
We’re seeking a passionate and creative Urban Designer / Graphic Designer to help deliver a major visual planning project. In this role, you will produce high‑quality documentation and visual material that translates complex planning concepts into clear, accessible, and engaging content.
Working closely with strategic planners and urban designers, you will develop diagrams, maps, layouts, and 3D modelling outputs, while helping to establish style guides and digital presentation standards for a public‑facing platform. You’ll also contribute to a variety of other planning and design initiatives, including policy development, master plans, planning assessments, and design review processes.
Key Responsibilities
- Produce compelling visual outputs, including layouts, maps, diagrams, and 3D modelling scenarios.
- Support updates to planning and design policies and development control documentation.
- Create visually accessible design materials and adhere to accessibility requirements.
- Conduct scenario testing using 3D modelling tools (experience with Giraffe is beneficial but can be learned).
- Collaborate with planners, designers, and internal stakeholders to achieve project objectives.
- Maintain high standards of accuracy, quality, and consistency across all design outputs.
- Contribute to master planning projects, 3D model initiatives, and other strategic design work.
- Perform additional design‑related duties in support of the broader City Strategy and Design team.
- 3–5 years’ experience in urban design, 3D modelling, and visualisation.
- Strong graphic design capability and proficiency in tools such as:
- SketchUp, AutoCAD, ArcGIS, Giraffe (or equivalents)
- Adobe Creative Suite
- Microsoft Office
- Demonstrated experience preparing planning or urban design reports.
- Advanced skills in layout design and document formatting.
- Strong organisation and time‑management abilities with the capacity to work independently and within a team.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Understanding of accessible design principles.
- A passion for clear, structured, and well‑presented design documentation.
