We are currently recruiting experienced Electrical and Instrumentation Technicians
to support maintenance operations at Rio Tinto’s Boyne Smelters, a critical asset within Rio Tinto’s aluminium operations. These roles suit trades who value structured maintenance work, clear systems and a strong safety culture, while working within a well established heavy industry environment.
Key responsibilities include
- Maintenance of natural gas assets and electrical systems in line with site standards
- Instrument calibration and preventative maintenance activities
- Working with PLC systems including Allen Bradley, variable speed drives and automated plant
- Supporting defect elimination and asset performance feedback through RTBS
- Post maintenance commissioning, testing and housekeeping activities
- 9 day fortnight
- 10-hour shifts, Monday to Friday (6am to 4pm)
- No public holiday work
- Residential role within a heavy industry operating environment
- Electrical Trade Certificate
- Instrumentation certification highly regarded
- Experience maintaining gas assets preferred
- Working at Heights and Confined Space tickets advantageous
- Demonstrated commitment to safety and compliance in heavy industry
- Work within a Rio Tinto operational environment with clear expectations and systems
- Strong safety leadership and structured maintenance planning
- Predictable roster supporting work life balance
- Residential role with no FIFO or shutdown travel
Contract lengths vary depending on role and experience, typically ranging from 3 to 6 months, with longer duration contracts available through to August 2026.

This is a residential role only. Applicants must hold full Australian working rights and currently reside in Boyne Island or surrounding areas.
