About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Electrical Design Engineer – Water Projects
to support the delivery of electrical design and specifications for water infrastructure projects across mining operations.
This role is responsible for producing safe, compliant, and cost-effective electrical designs for water-related assets, including pump stations, borefields, and transfer systems. You will work closely with project managers, internal stakeholders, and external vendors to ensure high-quality design outcomes aligned with Australian standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop electrical design deliverables in line with project scope, specifications, and standards, including:
- General Arrangements (GAs)
- Single Line Diagrams (SLDs)
- Termination diagrams
- Cable schedules
- Scopes of Work
- Materials lists
- Equipment specifications and datasheets
- Perform electrical calculations, cable sizing, equipment selection, and procurement support
- Provide technical advice and recommendations to Project Managers and internal stakeholders
- Liaise with external vendors, manufacturers, contractors, and consultants for quotations and equipment supply
- Assess technical proposals and present recommendations to internal stakeholders
- Attend Factory Acceptance Tests (FATs) to support technical compliance and quality assurance
- Undertake occasional short-duration site visits (Pilbara and Perth metro) for inspection and testing
- Maintain clear and timely communication on design progress, changes, risks, and issues
- Collaborate with and support other engineering disciplines to ensure coordinated project delivery
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (recognised by Engineers Australia)
- 3–5 years’ experience in an electrical engineering design role
- Strong understanding of Australian and relevant international standards
- Experience with safety-in-design processes (HAZOP, HAZID, risk assessments, etc.)
- Demonstrated experience designing electrical infrastructure for:
- Pump stations
- Borefields
- Transfer pump stations
- Pump motors, VSDs, MCCs
- Understanding of Operating and Control Philosophies / Functional Descriptions
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Earthing design, transformer specification, HV design submissions, and HV systems
- Instrumentation selection and control systems design (level, flow, pressure, control valves, pump station controls)
- Commissioning of pumps, MCCs, and VSDs
- Mine site experience and knowledge of relevant mining regulations
- Perth CBD-based role with a consistent Monday–Friday roster
- Immediate start on a well-defined water infrastructure project
- Exposure to large-scale mining and water projects
