About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Design Manager
to join a leading government agency’s Engineering Division for a 6-month temporary assignment. This role will lead multi-disciplinary technical teams to deliver consistent, value-for-money, and timely engineering design solutions across critical infrastructure projects.
The successful candidate will act as a Primary Engineering Representative, overseeing technical design delivery, ensuring compliance with safety standards, and supporting innovation and continuous improvement in design processes.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and coordinate multi-disciplinary design teams to deliver quality, cost-effective, and timely technical outputs.
- Develop and implement effective design delivery plans and ensure alignment with project milestones.
- Ensure compliance with Safety in Design (SiD) and Sustainability in Design (SuiD) processes.
- Oversee technical quality assurance, design reviews, and adherence to corporate engineering standards.
- Engage with internal stakeholders and project partners to achieve optimal outcomes.
- Support innovation and continuous improvement across engineering systems and documentation.
- Provide accurate scope, cost, and schedule information to enable informed decision-making.
- Maintain clear communication with stakeholders, providing regular progress updates and reports.
To be successful in this role, you will bring:
- A degree qualification in Engineering (B.Eng) or equivalent in a relevant discipline – essential.
- Demonstrated experience in engineering design, design review, and development of infrastructure standards.
- Strong leadership presence with the ability to inspire and guide multi-disciplinary teams.
- Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills with the ability to influence and negotiate.
- Strategic and analytical thinking with proven problem-solving skills.
- Experience in preparing technical reports and reviewing design documentation.
- A proactive and collaborative approach, promoting innovation and efficiency in project delivery.
- Postgraduate qualifications in Project Management, Business Management, or related disciplines.
- Experience auditing reports or designs prepared by others.
