Our client AGL are seeking a Data Governance Lead to play a pivotal role in embedding enterprise-wide data governance practices that unlock the full value of organisational data assets. This is a contract role for six months in Melbourne CBD within a hybrid working environment.
About the Role
As the Data Governance Lead, you will champion the development and implementation of a comprehensive data governance framework. You’ll lead strategic initiatives to ensure data accuracy, consistency, security, and usability across the business. This is a high-impact role that combines leadership, stakeholder engagement, and technical expertise to drive a culture of data responsibility and literacy.
Key Responsibilities
• Design and implement enterprise data governance frameworks, policies, and standards.
• Define and enforce data ownership and stewardship models.
• Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements (e.g., Australian Privacy Act, SOCI, PCI DSS, GDPR).
• Lead the Data Steward Forum and foster cross-functional collaboration.
• Oversee data quality, metadata, and master data management initiatives.
• Identify and mitigate data-related risks, including privacy and security.
• Develop and deliver training programs to promote data governance awareness.
What You’ll Bring
• Proven experience in data governance, data management, or related fields.
• Proven experience in a leadership or senior specialist role.
• Proven success in implementing enterprise-wide data governance programs.
• Strong knowledge of MDM, data lifecycle management, and cloud data platforms.
• Experience with tools like Collibra, Informatica Axon/EDC, Alation, or Microsoft Purview.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
• Agile delivery experience and familiarity with tools like JIRA and Confluence.
• Experience in the utilities sector is highly desirable.
