Customer Service Officer
Local Council | Short-Term Assignment
Location: Melton
Rate:$46 per hour + super
Duration: 4-week contract only 

A local council in Melton is seeking an experienced Customer Service Officer to provide short-term coverage within a busy Customer Service Centre.
This role is ideal for someone confident working at the frontline, delivering high-quality customer service across face-to-face, phone, and email channels in a fast-paced local government environment.
About the role You will be the first point of contact for residents, community members, organisations, and internal staff, providing professional, accurate, and timely customer service.

Key responsibilities:

  • Delivering customer service across counter, call centre, and email channels
  • Responding to and resolving customer enquiries, or referring matters as required
  • Providing accurate information on council services and community facilities
  • Processing payments, receipting, balancing cash and petty cash, and preparing daily banking
  • Accurately recording customer requests and interactions in council systems
  • Managing multiple tasks simultaneously while maintaining attention to detail
  • Handling challenging situations calmly and professionally
About you:
  • Proven experience in a high-volume customer service role, ideally within local government
  • Confidence handling cash, payments, and daily reconciliation
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
  • The ability to work under pressure and manage competing priorities
  • Sound computer skills, including Microsoft Office and customer management systems
  • Experience working with culturally and linguistically diverse communities
