Customer Service Officer –
Part Time (5 hrs/day) – Local Council
$37 per hour + super | Short‑term assignment until mid‑September 2026
Flexible start times between 9 AM and 11 AM | Work across multiple locations

About the Role:
We are seeking a highly professional and community‑minded Customer Service Officer to join a Local Council.
This is a part‑time, flexible role averaging ~5 hours per day, up to 5 days per week, with a contract running until mid‑September 2026.

Following training, the successful candidate will rotate across Broadmeadows, Craigieburn, Mickleham North and Sunbury customer service centres. You will primarily support customers via phone and email, with occasional coverage at front counters.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide a positive first‑point‑of‑contact experience across phone, face‑to‑face and online channels.
  • Promote a professional and welcoming image of Council at all times.
  • Manage customer enquiries, service requests, complaints and transactions in line with Council policies and service standards.
  • Perform administrative, clerical and occasional cashiering tasks.
  • Contribute to call centre KPIs, quality standards and customer satisfaction targets.
  • Assist customers with accurate information for Council applications, permits and services.
  • Maintain confidentiality and adhere to all Council policies, procedures and risk management requirements.
  • Ensure customer service centres are presented to a high professional standard.
  • Support emergency evacuation procedures if required.

You are a customer‑focused, community‑oriented professional who displays empathy, resilience and excellent communication skills. You enjoy working in a dynamic environment, can adapt to rotating tasks and locations, and thrive in a role that requires problem‑solving and initiative.

Skills & Experience Essential:
  • Demonstrated experience delivering high‑quality customer service.
  • Experience in fast‑paced, high‑volume call centre and face‑to‑face environments.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with a capacity to handle difficult conversations tactfully.
  • Competency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and confidence navigating multiple computer systems.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities and follow tasks through to completion.
  • Understanding of confidentiality, privacy and professional boundaries.
  • Ability to travel across multiple Council sites as required.
  • Flexibility to start shifts between 9 AM – 11 AM and work a full 5‑hour shift.
  • Ability to draw on lived experience or community knowledge to support diverse customer needs, including lived experience within the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community and/or proficiency in one or more languages commonly spoken in Hume (e.g., Arabic, Assyrian, Farsi, Greek, Hindi, Italian, Mandarin, Nepali, Punjabi, Turkish, Urdu, Vietnamese).
Desirable:
  • Experience with cashiering, reconciliation and financial transaction processes.
  • Knowledge of Council services and local community needs.
  • Fluency in an additiona language.
  • Certificate in Customer Service, Call Centre, Business Administration or similar.
