Specialist – Cost Analyst Location: Central Park, Perth
Department: Sustaining Capital – Project Services
Contract: 12-month contract
Rate:$100 – $105 per hour
Experience Required: Minimum 5–10 years
Work Type: Perth-based, supporting projects in execution phase

An exciting opportunity is available for an experienced Specialist – Cost Analyst to support a portfolio of sustaining capital projects for a Tier 1 mining organisation. This role is critical to ensuring strong cost control, accurate forecasting, and robust financial governance during the execution phase of projects.
Reporting to the Superintendent Project Controls, you will operate in a fast-paced, high-value project environment, working closely with project delivery teams, project controls, and senior stakeholders to provide trusted cost management expertise.

Key Responsibilities Cost Management & Controls

  • Deliver end-to-end cost management support across multiple sustaining capital projects in execution.
  • Prepare detailed cost reports, control curves, and variance analysis with clear insights and commentary.
  • Develop, maintain, and validate project cost forecasts in line with project controls requirements.
  • Support Estimate at Completion (EAC) development and ongoing progress assessment.
Forecasting, Structures & Reporting
  • Collaborate with Project Leads to develop Cost Breakdown Structures (CBS) and cashflow models.
  • Maintain accurate cost data aligned to standardized systems, tools, and governance frameworks.
  • Ensure integrity of cost trends, commitments, and actuals across the portfolio.
Risk, Change & Governance
  • Implement effective contingency and change management processes.
  • Proactively identify cost risks and mitigation strategies.
  • Report technical issues, process gaps, and improvement opportunities to governance and leadership teams.
Stakeholder Engagement & Leadership
  • Provide technical cost management advice to project stakeholders.
  • Constructively challenge contractor claims and project assumptions where required.
  • Maintain strong working relationships with Planning, Risk, Estimating, and RTP teams.
  • Assist the Superintendent with portfolio health assessments and monthly review meetings.
  • Provide coaching and guidance to cost analysts and ad hoc training to project delivery teams.
Continuous Improvement
  • Identify and drive process improvements to streamline workflows and enhance efficiency.
  • Support standardisation and uplift of cost management practices across the portfolio.
What You’ll Bring Qualifications & Experience
  • Degree in Engineering, Finance, Project Management, or a related discipline.
  • Minimum 5–10 years’ experience in cost control or cost engineering within large-scale projects.
  • Strong experience supporting execution-phase projects, ideally within mining, resources, or heavy industry.
Technical Capability
  • Strong understanding of cost management techniques, forecasting, and financial controls.
  • Advanced proficiency in MS Excel, SAP, and cost management systems.
  • Experience with Contruent/Prism highly regarded.
  • Working knowledge of Planning and Risk and their impact on cost performance.
  • Experience across various contract types (EPCM, EPC, reimbursable, lump sum).
