Electrical Commissioning Superintendent

Location: Perth-based for initial testing and preparation (9-hour days), then site-based (12-hour days)
Roster: 2:1 FIFO from Perth
Reports to: Commissioning Manager
Contract Duration: 23 February 2026 – 21 February 2027

Position Overview

The Electrical Commissioning Superintendent is a senior leadership role responsible for planning, coordinating, and executing all electrical commissioning activities to ensure systems, equipment, and infrastructure are commissioned safely, efficiently, and in full compliance with project, operational, and regulatory requirements.
This role provides strong technical leadership across high-risk energisation activities, manages commissioning documentation and resources, and works closely with construction, operations, and vendor teams to deliver a seamless transition from construction through to operational readiness.

Key Responsibilities
Resource Management & Coordination

  • Ensure competent commissioning resources are available and aligned with project schedules
  • Coordinate vendors and specialist personnel during commissioning activities
  • Manage shared resources between construction and commissioning teams
  • Oversee CMS processes to ensure effective systemisation and resource alignment
Documentation Control & Review
  • Review ITRs (C1–C5) for quality and compliance
  • Approve CVCs and documentation for NoE, RFC, RFSU, and Function Testing
  • Maintain and approve drawings, work packs, and discipline documentation in line with SDRL and CDMS requirements
  • Review and manage Commissioning Work Packs
Commissioning Planning & Execution
  • Support execution of the Commissioning Management Plan and CMS Management Plan
  • Develop, review, and approve Commissioning Test Procedures (CTPs)
  • Define systemisation boundaries and start-up sequences
  • Ensure alignment of FAT, SAT, pre-commissioning, and commissioning scopes
  • Oversee commissioning of HV/LV systems, protection systems, SCADA, PLCs, load management, and network integration
Safety & Risk Management
  • Lead safe energisation activities in compliance with electrical safety and permitting requirements
  • Manage HV/LV isolations, permits, and boundary isolation designs
  • Review and manage HAZOPs, TBRAs, and CRAWs
  • Identify, assess, and mitigate commissioning risks, including SIMOPS
Technical Leadership & Mentorship
  • Provide technical direction to commissioning and site teams
  • Mentor and develop commissioning personnel
  • Support development of Operational Test Procedures (OTPs)
Approval, Reporting & Change Management
  • Approve HV switching plans
  • Sign off Discipline Acceptance Certificates
  • Report on commissioning progress, risks, and readiness
  • Manage commissioning change control processes
Punch List & Handover
  • Participate in punch list walkdowns and ensure close-out
  • Support CCC handover and asset transfer to operations
  • Coordinate with Energy Operations, Asset Management, and fixed infrastructure teams
  • Oversee readiness and training of High Voltage Operators
Skills & Qualifications
  • Electrical Trade Qualification or Electrical Engineering Degree (or equivalent)
  • Current WA Electrical Licence
  • High Voltage Switching qualification
  • Section 26 completed
  • White Card
  • Valid C Class Driver’s Licence
  • FIFO medical clearance (including drug & alcohol requirements)
Technical Expertise
  • Strong HV and LV electrical systems knowledge
  • Proven experience in electrical commissioning methodologies, CMS, and systemisation
  • In-depth knowledge of:
    • Protection systems and protection testing
    • SCADA, PLCs, and control systems
    • Load management systems and network integration
  • Ability to interpret and approve drawings, schematics, switching plans, and isolation documentation
  • Strong understanding of FAT, SAT, pre-commissioning, commissioning, ITRs, CVCs, RFC/RFSU, and NoE processes
Safety & Risk
  • Demonstrated leadership in high-risk electrical activities
  • Strong knowledge of electrical legislation and standards
  • Proven SIMOPS management capability
Leadership & Interpersonal
  • Proven ability to lead multi-disciplinary teams
  • Strong communication across construction, commissioning, operations, and vendors
  • Calm, decisive, and safety-focused under pressure
  • Strong planning, prioritisation, and problem-solving skills
Desirable Experience
  • Previous experience as a Commissioning Superintendent
  • Commissioning of HV substations and large-scale power networks
  • Experience in renewable or energy transition projects (batteries, charging infrastructure, microgrids)
  • Brownfield and greenfield project experience
  • Remote FIFO site experience
  • Exposure to digital commissioning systems (CMS, CDMS, electronic ITR platforms)
  • Background in mining, heavy industry, or major infrastructure projects
