We are seeking an experienced Commissioning Superintendent to lead and deliver commissioning activities on a major mining and infrastructure project. This senior role is responsible for planning, coordinating, and executing commissioning activities to ensure systems, equipment, and infrastructure are commissioned safely, efficiently, and in compliance with project, operational, and regulatory requirements.
The Commissioning Superintendent will provide strong technical leadership, manage resources and documentation, oversee safety and risk during energisation, and work closely with construction, operations, engineering, and vendor teams to ensure a seamless transition from construction to operational readiness.
Key Roles and Responsibilities
Resource Management & Coordination
- Ensure sufficient and competent commissioning resources (engineers, trades, support staff) are available to meet project schedules
- Coordinate vendors and specialist personnel to provide technical support during commissioning
- Manage shared resources between construction and commissioning teams to support efficient handover
- Oversee CMS processes for resource allocation and systemisation alignment
- Review Inspection and Test Records (ITRs C1–C5) for quality and compliance
- Approve Construction Verification Certificates (CVCs) and documentation required for Notice of Energisation (NoE) and Function Testing
- Ensure drawings, work packs, and discipline documentation are maintained, updated, and back-drafted in line with SDRL and CDMS requirements
- Review and manage Commissioning Work Packs to ensure readiness for execution
- Support execution of the Commissioning Management Plan and CMS Management Plan
- Ensure pre-commissioning and commissioning procedures are followed and updated as required
- Develop, review, and approve Commissioning Test Procedures (CTPs)
- Define systemisation boundaries and start-up sequences
- Approve Ready-for-Commissioning (RFC) and Ready-for-Start-Up (RFSU) certificates
- Ensure alignment between FAT, SAT, and commissioning scopes
- Oversee onsite testing and commissioning of control systems including SCADA, load management, charger management systems, and network integration
- Oversee testing and compliance of protection systems, including HV protection requirements
- Lead safe energisation activities in full compliance with electrical safety and permitting requirements
- Identify, assess, and mitigate risks throughout commissioning
- Approve boundary isolation designs and execution
- Confirm completion of HV isolations, permits, and supporting documentation prior to energisation
- Review HAZOPs and ensure risks are appropriately managed
- Conduct and participate in TBRAs and CRAWs
- Provide technical leadership and guidance to commissioning and site teams
- Mentor team members to build commissioning capability and knowledge
- Support development of Operational Test Procedures (OTPs)
- Approve HV switching plans for commissioning activities
- Review and sign off Discipline Acceptance Certificates prior to NoE and Function Testing
- Provide accurate reporting on commissioning progress, risks, resourcing, and readiness
- Participate in punch list walkdowns
- Drive timely close-out of defects and incomplete works
- Oversee commissioning change control processes
- Ensure changes are assessed, documented, approved, and communicated prior to implementation
- Work closely with construction teams to support project delivery as required
- Support the Electrical Superintendent to ensure seamless transition from construction to commissioning
- Coordinate with Energy Operations for switching and operational readiness
- Support Construction Completion Certificate (CCC) handover activities
- Coordinate asset handover and load commissioning with Operations and Asset Management
- Ensure Heavy Mobile Equipment (HME), SMEs, and High Voltage Operators (HVOs) are ready for commissioning
- Manage SIMOPS between commissioning, construction, and operations
