Civil Projects Officer
Band 6 – Local Government | Full-Time | Western Suburbs
Our client, a progressive and rapidly growing council in Melbourne’s west, is seeking an experienced Civil Projects Officer
to support the delivery of key Capital Works programs across roads, drainage, and civil infrastructure.
This role plays a pivotal part in ensuring high‑quality project outcomes for the community through effective procurement, contractor management, and technical oversight.
About the Role
The Civil Projects Officer will be responsible for managing the procurement, scheduling and delivery of a range of civil infrastructure projects. You’ll oversee contracts, monitor construction progress, ensure compliance with OHS and environmental standards, and provide timely reporting on budgets and project status.
This position requires strong judgment, the ability to interpret technical documentation, and confidence engaging with contractors, stakeholders, and internal teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Coordinate procurement, tendering and contract management for civil infrastructure works.
- Oversee the delivery of road, drainage and civil capital projects within time, scope and budget.
- Conduct site inspections to ensure compliance with design standards, contract requirements and safety obligations.
- Assess contractor submissions, methodologies, and resourcing.
- Provide financial oversight, including monitoring budgets, progress claims and variations.
- Maintain accurate documentation and contract management records.
- Collaborate with internal teams including Engineering, Operations and Finance, as well as external service providers and statutory authorities.
About You
You will be a technically confident civil professional who can communicate effectively with contractors, interpret engineering documentation, and maintain strong attention to detail. You enjoy working both independently and collaboratively, and you’re comfortable navigating the complexities of local government project delivery.
Skills & Experience Required
- Tertiary qualifications in Civil Engineering or substantial relevant experience.
- Demonstrated experience in civil construction, infrastructure delivery and maintenance.
- Strong background in project and contract management.
- Knowledge of OHS legislation, traffic management requirements and civil construction standards.
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings and technical specifications.
- Strong report writing, stakeholder communication and problem‑solving skills.
- Proficiency in project management software, MS Office, financial systems, GIS or document control platforms.
- Current Victorian driver’s licence.
- White Card (OHS Construction Induction).
