Chandler Macleod in partnership with our Tier 1 Mining client is currently recruiting for an experienced Construction Superintendent to lead a site-based delivery team for Bauxite operations in Weipa on a FIFO Basis on a 10/4 or 9/5 Roster. This position will be casual, with an expected duration of 12+ months.

The role will be responsible for supporting the delivery of the annual capital plan, managing a team of plant operators and trades in a front line in field leadership role.

We’re looking for skilled Superintendents with exposure in areas such as:

  • Project Contractor/Delivery experience for Civil Construction and Earthmoving Sectors
  • Contractor and Civil Earthworks direct supervisory experience
  • Proven direct experience of earthworks teams at a senior level
  • Large civil infrastructure exposure
  • Strong understanding on earthmoving plant
  • Strong leadership and people skills

This role will offer:

Duties:

• Coordinating key material, equipment, and human resources.
• Leader, coach and mentor direct reports of Construction Leads and infield execution teams.
• Actively engaging with internal and external stakeholders at all levels to create and maintain beneficial relationships.
• Monitoring progress, ensuring high work quality standards, and regularly reporting on construction progress and compliance against plan.
• Providing construction input to tender review processes and supporting project study phase requirements, including safety, risk, constructability, schedule, cost, and lessons learned.
• Developing and implementing Construction Management Plan for each project along with owning the construction chapter of the projects Project Execution Plan.
• Managing the full utilization of on-site resources for efficient project execution.
• Understanding and managing critical risks and opportunities, with controls in place to minimize impacts and maximize opportunities during the construction phase.
• Maintaining a clear understanding of project contract terms and conditions, including contract variation and change management processes.
• Managing day-to-day self-delivery operations, including planning activities across multiple sites.
• Inspiring positive behaviours, practices, and processes, while providing leadership, development, and support to the mine operation teams.
• Driving continuous improvement initiatives and managing optimization projects.
• Fostering a strong safety culture and ensuring adherence to operational procedures, site standards, and legislation.
• Leading, organizing, and motivating teams to exceed expectations and targets, creating meaningful succession pathways.
• Developing and implementing productivity improvements to enhance project efficiencies.
• Collaborating with key partners to achieve broader business objectives.
• Measuring, analysing, and reporting on safety, people, and productivity activities.
• Supervising resources in line with the construction management and project execution plan.
• Controlling variation orders to ensure project scope adherence.
• Overseeing the performance of Engineering, Procurement, and Construction Management contractors for compliance with contract specifications and schedules.
• Collaborating with stakeholders to promote a culture of collaboration, participation, and improvement.
• Ensure the that the PES to Site Handover checklist process is followed and completed.
• Ensuring that the construction verification certificates are completed.
• Supporting Sustaining Capital Projects Leadership to champion a culture of high performance onsite.


Requirements:

• 10+ years in project construction experience in the contractor/delivery civil construction/earthmoving sectors.
• Contractor and/or self-perform civil earthworks direct supervision experience.
• Passion for developing a safe and high-performing team culture.
• A strong track record and passion for HSE in the field.
• Demonstrated experience in leading contracting partners in remote locations.
• Proven, direct experience of earthworks teams at senior level.
• Experience on large civil infrastructure projects. • Strong understanding earthmoving plant.
• Strong leadership and people skills.
• Willingness to work a flexible FIFO work schedule.
• Prefer wide experience base covering the civil construction but may also oversaw other common. disciplines where necessary, e.g. concrete, pipe work, structural, etc.
• Strong commitment to safety.
• Must be competent in the Microsoft Office Suite.

• Good understanding of SAP
• Civil construction experience in a similar role in the mining construction industry would be highly regarded.
