APS5 Community and Peer Worker

We’re seeking compassionate and motivated Community and Peer Workers to join a Federal government agency. This full-time role is initially offered as a 12-month contract with the possibility of extension. Your role will involve providing personalised peer support to current and former members, helping them navigate challenges and achieve their recovery goals.

About the role: 

• You’ll work directly with clients to identify their needs, set goals, and develop tailored action plans, drawing on your lived experience.
• Building strong, respectful relationships will be key as you assist clients in accessing services such as housing and counselling, and promote mental health recovery and resilience.
• Collaboration with a multidisciplinary team and engagement with community stakeholders will also be part of your day-to-day.

About You
You’re someone with lived experience related to military service, mental health, or supporting veterans and their families. You’re passionate about making a positive impact and possess the following qualities:

• Personal lived experience with military service, veteran families, or mental health journeys
• Willingness to undertake a Certificate IV in Mental Health Peer Work or similar qualification
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Empathy, resilience, and emotional intelligence
• Ability to work collaboratively within a team and engage with diverse community groups
• Strong organisational skills with a focus on confidentiality and accurate record-keeping
