Join Our Team as an APS5 equivalent Provisional Psychologist and Make a Difference in the Lives of Veterans and Their Families
Are you passionate about mental health and eager to develop your clinical expertise while supporting Australia’s veteran community? We’re seeking a dedicated AP5 Provisional Psychologist to contribute to Australia’s leading veteran mental health services. This role offers a unique opportunity to work within a supportive multidisciplinary environment, enhance your skills through professional development, and directly impact the wellbeing of those who have served.
 
What You’ll Do:

  • Deliver evidence-based psychological assessments, counselling, risk evaluations, and safety planning to current and former Defence Force personnel, their partners, and families.
  • Collaborate with clients to identify meaningful goals and tailor therapeutic interventions accordingly.
  • Keep detailed, confidential clinical records, including session notes, care plans, and risk assessments.
  • Participate in supervision, case reviews, and training activities to support your progression towards general registration.
  • Liaise with clients, their families, and other healthcare providers to coordinate care and enhance therapeutic support.
  • Potentially co-facilitate group programs and contribute to service promotion and quality improvement initiatives.
Essential Skills and Qualifications:
  • Current registration or eligibility as a provisional Psychologist with AHPRA.
  • Demonstrated experience in psychological assessment and evidence-based interventions.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and listening skills.
  • Ability to build rapport and work effectively with clients from diverse backgrounds.
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills.
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development and receiving clinical supervision.
  • Knowledge of ethical guidelines, legislative requirements, and confidentiality standards.
Nice to Have:
  • Experience working with veteran or military populations.
  • Skills in delivering group therapy or psychoeducation.
  • Familiarity with the Open Arms Model of Care or similar frameworks.
  • Ability to work flexibly within a multidisciplinary team.
Preferred Education & Experience:
  • A relevant degree in Psychology (Bachelor or Master’s level).
  • Experience in mental health settings, particularly with vulnerable populations.
  • Evidence of progress toward full registration as a Psychologist.
 
  Mandatory Requirements
  • Qualifications as a provisional Psychologist**
  • Currently hold or ability to obtain a Working with Vulnerable People registration OR
  • Currently hold or ability to obtain a Working with Children check
**Note: Applicants who are provisional psychologists will need to provide evidence of their expected timeline to full registration with AHPRA.
