Senior Infrastructure Services Officer - Regional Housing (AO6)
Location: Cairns, Townsville or Mount Isa
Salary: AO6 level ($76.98 + Super p/hr)
Work Type:  6 Month Contract - Potential for 12 month Extension

Make a real impact in Queensland’s regional communities. Be the dedicated property professional supporting safe, compliant, well‑managed housing for educators across North and West Queensland. This role is ideal for an experienced residential or community housing specialist who thrives on autonomy, regional engagement, and meaningful service delivery.

About the Opportunity

This newly created regional role supports the management of subsidised staff housing across a dispersed portfolio. You will be the local expert that principals, committees, and regional leadership rely on to ensure housing is safe, compliant, effectively maintained, and aligned to policy and legislation.
You’ll work both independently and as part of a supportive statewide team to strengthen systems, improve consistency, and reduce administrative workload for school‑based teams, allowing frontline staff to focus on what they do best.

What You’ll Do

  • Coordinate tenancy and leasing functions across a regional residential portfolio, including inspections, complex tenancy matters, and high‑quality advice.
  • Oversee maintenance and repairs by working closely with QBuild, contractors, and regional stakeholders to ensure timely, safe, compliant outcomes.
  • Strengthen housing compliance through consistent application of Queensland tenancy legislation, organisational policies, and governance frameworks.
  • Support the rollout and embedding of a new housing system (EHS), ensuring accurate data, quality reporting, and streamlined local processes.
  • Build collaborative relationships with principals, committees, industrial representatives, and central teams to drive consistent housing practices.
  • Prepare reports, briefings, and recommendations to inform decision‑making across a range of infrastructure and housing issues.
  • Represent organisational values by modelling professionalism, service quality, and commitment to regional communities.

About You

Essential experience
  • Strong background in residential property management, community housing, government housing, staff accommodation, or remote accommodation operations.
  • Understanding of QLD tenancy legislation (RTRA Act) and residential compliance.
  • Demonstrated experience coordinating maintenance, contractors, inspections, and safety requirements across multiple properties or towns.
  • High‑level stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence, resolve issues, and provide clear, considered advice.
  • Strong administrative and systems capability, ideally with exposure to property systems, data accuracy, and process rollout.

You’ll also bring
  • Excellent written communication, including reports and briefings.
  • A proactive, organised, and solutions‑focused approach.
  • Comfort working independently while part of a larger distributed team.
  • Valid driver licence and willingness to travel within the region.

Why This Role?
  • Directly support the attraction and retention of essential workers in regional Queensland.
  • Meaningful community impact - your work ensures safe and secure homes for teachers and their families.
  • No weekend open homes, rent‑roll sales pressure, or KPI churn.
  • Stable AO6 public sector role with strong work–life balance.
  • Be part of shaping a new, statewide approach to regional housing.
